On the first post-operative day, the patient is trained in breathing exercises, muscle exercises for the healthy leg and of the one that was operated on. The patient is also trained in whole body conditioning exercises. The first verticalization (with drains) follows on the SAME day, in the sense of sitting on the bed or getting up, which is repeated several times during that day. If the drains are removed, and if the patient’s condition remains stabile, he will make his first steps on the same day, with the help of an orthopaedic aid. When moving to the associated institution (5th post-operative day), the patient is capable of independent verticalization, he is trained to walk in the correct way, and he learned how to adequately burden the weaker leg and do target exercises.
